Description

Ghana BECAS, as an Associate Award of the Educational Quality Improvement Program 2 (EQUIP2) focused on the development of a new comprehensive education assessment system that included National Education Assessment (NEA), School Education Assessment (SEA), and Continuous Assessment (CA). It was a three-year, $1.2 million project whose objectives were to: design and implement a comprehensive educational assessment system, establish realistic expectations in the setting of examination standards, provide information in an accurate and timely fashion, encourage the use of examination results for program and school improvement, and establish capacity in the Ghana Education Service (GES) to continue to manage the new comprehensive educational assessment system.

Ghana BECAS focused, in particular, on supporting the development of tests that relate to primary school levels one through six in the basic education system. The emphasis throughout test development was on the educational relevance and appropriateness of the tests. Every effort was made to develop a comprehensive framework for the various tests that was based upon the essential understanding that underlies the curriculum.
