Summary | Phase 1 | Phase 2 | LTTP Publications

The objective of the Kenya Teacher Education and Professional Development (TEPD) Program is to improve the quality of pre service teacher education and secondarily, to build stronger links between the pre-service and in-service systems of teacher education.

The five key elements of the program include: (i) establishing a framework for enhancing teacher competencies within a rapid reforms context; (ii) improving the skills of Primary Teacher Training College (PTTC) lecturers by introducing new and existing teacher education materials that better prepare student teachers for actual school conditions; (iii) improving skills of PTTC lecturers through a national lecturer induction and training program; (iv) improving skills of PTTC lecturers and building of capacity of PTTCs to use ICT for pre service teacher education; and (v) initiating skills-based training relevant to HIV/AIDS in pre-service teacher training programs. The Program will also work with the MOE to facilitate policy dialogue and policy formation on key issues in teacher development.

This Program is being developed and implemented with and through the MOE and actively engages key stakeholders.  Over the life of the program, TEPD will improve the skills of 1,600 PTTC lecturers and 35,000 teacher trainees.
