Summary

For Nigeria to be successful in designing and implementing programs that respond to the range of challenges the country is facing in HIV/AIDS and TB prevention, treatment and care, child survival, reproductive health, and education, an enabling environment for these must be nurtured and sustained. The Enabling Environment Program conducted by the Futures Group International in cooperation with the Academy for Educational Development (AED), Africare, Internews, Johns Hopkins Center for Communications Programs (JHUCCP), Pathfinder International, and Action Aid, aims at achieving this objective by fostering partnerships of organizations that can begin to enhance the environment for integrated health and education programs. Working with local partner organizations, the program will focus on:  broadening and strengthening political and popular support for health and education programs; improving policies, plans and financing for health and education; enhancing and creating partnerships between and among public and private sector organizations; marshaling accurate, up-to-date, relevant information to inform the policy process; enhancing local capacity to better plan, conduct advocacy, use information and develop policies in connection with a substantial local grants program; and improving coordination and cooperation among national and international partners, especially in the design and implementation of programs.
