Description

The objective of the National Book Program is to increase school children's access to high quality books and instructional materials in school libraries and classrooms.  The program works with an Egyptian nongovernmental organization, the Integrated Care Society (ICS) as well as representatives of the Ministry of Education in Egypt to select, procure and provide books and educational materials for children's classroom and extracurricular reading, and to promote reading for enjoyment among children as a national goal. It is planned that ICS will monitor the use of the books and materials in Egyptian classrooms and schools, promote the enjoyment of reading among Egyptian children, raise the importance of reading and authorship for children, and contribute to further cross-cultural understanding, tolerance and peace. Development of a strong market demand will ensure that high quality children's books will be published and printed in Egypt that respond to the demand.
