Summary

The Innovations in Decentralization and Active Schools Project (AprenDes) is designed to assist the Peruvian government and civil society organizations in developing and strengthening the implementation of effective national and local educational decentralization policies.  AprenDes will help bolster the quality of multigrade rural schools in the San Martin region. The project aims to ensure active citizen participation in developing and implementing policies nationally and regionally to foster local decentralized management of educational quality services and resources in selected geographical areas. In association with the Ministry of Education, the National Council for Education, regional and municipal governments, and members of civil society, AED provides assistance to strengthen educational institutions and programs; promote democratic behavior; improve education management processes; and develop the capacity of school directors, teachers, parents, and other primary participants to create quality schools in rural areas.
